The country of Nigeria is a major
oil exporter. “They are the eighth leading oil exporter in the world.” Although
this is good for the economy of Nigeria, it is dangerous to the environment. An
example of how this is dangerous would be the oil spills that occur frequently
and the other dangerous that result from them. This is an issue that affects
the people and environment of Africa. (used

The issue of oil spills
in Africa is very important because it is dangerous to the environment. Oil
spills in Africa are very harmful to the plants and animals who live there,
even causing death. These oil spills also cause fires that burn down vegetation.
The fires caused from oil spills can also trigger acid rain, which is a major
agent of erosion. This will cause the land to decompose quicker. (used Arreola,
Daniel D., et al. Geography)
The danger of oil spills affects
Africa in many ways. Oil spills ruin the land and water also killing any life
that resides there. Oil spills also effect human life by polluting air and
water. Air and water pollution can lead to disease or death in humans. As
stated above oil spills also cause fires and acid rain, which leads to the
destruction of property and sometimes even injury. (used Arreola, Daniel D., et
As you can see there are
a lot of hazards that come from oil spills in Africa, but there are also ways
that we can solve this issue. A good plan of action to solve issue would be to
1. Help clean up the oil spills that threaten the environment right this very
minute. 2. After we do that we need to next prevent more from happening. If
governments can monitor workers and ensure that workers have proper training
then we reduce the risk of accidental oil spills from occurring. 3. After that
we need to help to rebuild the environment that was taken from oil spills.
Relocating animals that are native the land back to their natural environment, planting
trees, growing the vegetation back, and trying to purify any water that was
polluted. (used Arreola, Daniel D., et al. Geography)
So, in conclusion Oil
spills in Africa are very dangerous. They kill wildlife and cause many other
hazardous events such as fires and acid rain. The spills also cause damage to
the human environment as well. To correct the accidental spills, we need to
clean up, monitor the workers, and restore wildlife. Oil spills are harmful to
the environment and need to be corrected. (used Arreola, Daniel D., et al.
